 Dr. Paul S. Burkey has been an orthodontic specialist in Vernon Hills, Illinois since 1985. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School as co-valedictorian and attended Loyola University of Chicago where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology graduating Magna Cum Laude. He is a graduate of Loyola University School of Dentistry, finishing as valedictorian in 1983. Dr. Burkey pursued specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Iowa completing a Master of Science degree with thesis and earning a Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics. Upon completion of his orthodontic specialty training and residency, Dr. Burkey began to practice in Vernon Hills in 1985. In 1994, he relocated to his current office, also in Vernon Hills.Dr. Burkey and his wife, Alisa, have three sons, Luke, Seth and Daniel. The boys are ages 13, 11, and 8. Spending time with his wife and sons is a priority for Dr. Burkey when he is not at the office. As a family, they especially like doing things outdoors, such as swimming, kayaking, golf and waterskiing. Dr. Burkey also loves to scuba dive. In the winter, the entire family enjoys downhill skiing. Dr. Burkey is an active member of Crossroads Church in Grayslake. As a specialist in orthodontics, Dr. Burkey enjoys treating children as well as adults. He offers a wide range of treatment including interceptive orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics to help influence skeletal growth of the jaws. He provides comprehensive orthodontic treatment, and he is a strong advocate of interdisciplinary care as he communicates promptly with your family dentist as well as any other dental specialist involved in your or your child’s care. He uses GAC's In-Ovation-R self-ligating brackets, the latest in bracket technology, for faster and more comfortable tooth movement. He also offers clear ceramic braces as well as Invisalign therapy. Dr. Burkey is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, the Illinois Society of Orthodontists, World Federation of Orthodontists and the Christian Medical Dental Society. He is also a diplomate of The American Board of Orthodontics. Only a small minority of orthodontists have completed the optional certification and examination process to become board certified. This involves a written examination as well as an oral examination along with a detailed workup and presention of complex, completed cases. Dr. Burkey has published articles in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and has co-authored a chapter in Textbook of Orthodontics published in 2001. Dr. Burkey is in solo practice and maintains only one office. Therefore, you can be certain of the same personalized, consistent care and attention to detail, since you will always see the same orthodontist for each visit. He believes in the importance of good communication with our patients and their families, as well as with your family dentist.
